Far East Consortium Australia (FEC) is pleased to announce the appointment of FEC Constructions as the builder for 640 Bourke Street, a significant milestone that marks the next chapter in the delivery of one of Melbourne’s most anticipated residential developments.
640 Bourke Street will deliver a 68-level residential tower comprising over 620 residences, four levels of premium resident amenity, retail activation at ground level, a public plaza and the retention and integration of the heritage-listed Eliza Tinsley Building.
The appointment highlights the strength of FEC’s vertically integrated model, with the construction team having been involved in the project from its earliest stages of planning and design.
The announcement follows a number of significant milestones for FEC Constructions, which completed Perth Hub in Western Australia in 2024 and is currently well advanced on the delivery of Towers 5 and 6 at Queen’s Wharf Brisbane. These projects demonstrate the group’s growing capability to deliver large-scale, complex developments while maintaining a strong focus on quality and innovation.
FEC Constructions Director Andrew White said the collaborative approach has provided unique opportunities to enhance the project before construction even begins.
“Instead of the model of a developer designing a building and then finding a builder, we’re in the fortunate situation where we engage right at the beginning with FEC’s development team.”

Far East Consortium Director of Marketing and Sales Lauren Sheldon said the early partnership between the development and construction teams has already delivered significant benefits for the project.
“Having them involved super early in the project, we’ve been able to work with them, our architects and our interior designers to develop solutions and innovations that we haven’t seen in the past, and the project is going to benefit ten-fold as a result.”

The close collaboration between FEC Constructions, Rothelowman, interior design consultants and the broader project team has enabled design, buildability and resident experience to be considered simultaneously throughout the project’s evolution.

Construction is expected to commence later this year, with early works, procurement and delivery planning already progressing.
Designed by Rothelowman, 640 Bourke Street will contribute significantly to the transformation of Melbourne’s western CBD, delivering premium residences, exceptional amenity and meaningful public realm improvements, including enhancements to Langs Lane and the surrounding precinct.
